TECH FOUNDATIONAL LLM

CHALLENGE

Build & Train a Language Model ≤50M Params

Build and train a language model capped at 50 million parameters. You design the architecture, curate the data, and write the training loop. We want to see how much capability you can pull out of a deliberately small model.

EXAMPLES

  • • a domain-specific assistant for legal or cryptographic text
  • • a model optimized for on-device inference
  • • a small generative model trained on a narrow technical corpus without touching a commercial API

EVALUATION CRITERIA

  • Perplexity & Accuracy — language modeling quality on held-out sets
  • Reasoning Performance — performance on logic & benchmark tasks
  • Training Efficiency — training speed & memory footprint
  • Innovation — novel architecture or data approaches
  • Documentation & Demo — clarity of write-up and working demo

CHALLENGE

Build a Data-Driven System on Real Datasets

Build and train a data-driven system on real empirical datasets to solve real problems in healthcare, medicine, finance, or science. Use public and de-identified data only.

EXAMPLES

  • • medical diagnostics software, hospital workflow tools, or clinical NLP
  • • health-tech analytics pipelines or research data dashboards
  • • quantitative trading models, fintech systems, or fraud detection systems

OPEN GENERAL INVENTION

CHALLENGE

Build a Functional Prototype

Build a functional prototype with technical novelty and cross-disciplinary engineering. No specific domain constraint — just show technical depth, creativity, and real execution.

EXAMPLES

  • • IoT infrastructure, smart devices, sensor networks
  • • generative AI product, creative tools, simulation systems
  • • full-stack apps, developer tools, open-source projects, or any combination that demonstrates engineering depth

Design Frontend Hardware UI/UX 3D Modeling Prototyping

  • Creativity — originality and boldness of the concept
  • Execution — polish, usability, and technical quality
